Walking in the Footsteps
We are happy to collaborate with Hike Nova Scotia on the Walking in the Footsteps initiative, part of its NS Walks program. Walking in the Footsteps aims to increase walking in our 13 Mi’kmaq communities, schools and other urban and rural areas.
Program components include:
Walking challenge journey through Mi’kma’ki
Traditional Mi’kmaw trail teachings
Walking audits for more walkable communities
Learning opportunities for non-indigenous people
The program is generously supported by the Province of Nova Scotia and The Entente Foundation.
Walking Groups and Shannex
Our Pathways Society will collaborate with Hike NS to pilot two walking groups based out of Shannex facilities. Together we will help more older adults enjoy the many physical, mental and social benefits of group walking and help make connections with the community. This project is supported through Shannex Cares.
